About Jenny

I make room for stories, curiosity, and welcome.

I’m a writer, educator, former bookstore owner, longtime homeschooler, and host living among the pines in Nevada City, California.

The thread through it all

Attention is a form of care.

For more than forty years, books and stories have shaped the way I learn, teach, and understand my own life. I homeschooled for twelve years, taught in classrooms, earned a Master of Education in Educational Studies with an emphasis in English education, and once owned an independent bookstore.

Now I write Ember & Brook, where I use television, novels, and film as pathways into the questions midlife women are already carrying. I’m not interested in flattening stories into lessons. I’m interested in what happens when we let them illuminate our contradictions, longings, and unfinished places.

My husband and I also host The Wellspring, a private guest suite on our two-acre property. I curated its children’s library with the same attention I bring to an essay: imagining the person who will arrive and what might help them feel seen.

Someday, these two parts of my work will meet in reading retreats. For now, you’re welcome to read, stay, or simply look around.
